Spor Toto Super Lig Week 28 Preview

The 28th round of the Spor Toto Super Lig kickoffs today as Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Galatasaray battle it out for the top spot in the league...

Friday April 24th:
Sivasspor host Mersin IY in the opening match of the week; both Sivas and Mersin are safe from relegation and far from a European qualification spot.

Saturday April 25th:
  • Fenerbahce take on Eskisehirspor away in Eskisehir in a tough match that Fenerbahce coach Ismail Kartal labeled as the "toughest from our remaining matches". Fenerbahce are only one point ahead of second placed Besiktas and third placed Galatasaray so a draw or loss might see Fenerbahce drop to third. Detailed match preview to be posted Saturday morning.
  • Bursaspor host Basakasehir in a much anticipated match as both teams are trying to secure a Europa League spot next season by finishing 4th. Basaksehir are currently 4th in the league with 47 points, one point ahead of 5th placed Trabzonspor. Bursaspor on the other hand are 6th with 44 points so a loss for Bursaspor today might end their European dreams of next season.
  • Rizespor hosts Kasimpasa as both teams aim to increase their chances of avoiding relegation. Kasimpasa are currently 14th in the league with 29 points while Rizespor are 15th with 28 points; 8 and 7 points clear off the relegation zone respectively.

Sunday April 26th:
  • Galatasaray host Gaziantepspor in a must win match. A win can potentially lead Galatasaray back to the top of the league however a loss can combined with a Fenerbahce win will greatly affect Galatasaray's chances in winning the league. Gaziantepspor are currently 10th in the league with 35 points.
  • Genclerbirligi host Trabzonspor in must win match for Trabzon if they are to get a European spot. Trabzonspor defeated Galatasaray last week and will be hosting Besiktas next week so a win today will be vital for them if they are to keep their Europa League qualification hopes intact. Trabzon are currently 5th in the league with 46 points and a win tonight might put them in 4th.
  • Relegation bounded Balikesirspor host Erciyesspor. Both teams are in the relegation zone with Erciyesspor standing at 17th with 20 points while Balikesirspor are at the bottom with 19 points.
  • Konyaspor host Akhisar in a midtable battle. Konyaspor are coached by former Fenerbahce coach and player Aykut Kocaman while Akhisar are coached by former Fenerbahce player Roberto Carlos.

Monday April 27th:

Besiktas host relegation bounded Karabukspor in the final match of the week. The last time the two teams met Besiktas won 2-1 and a win today might put the Black Eagles back at first however a loss or draw (combined with a Galatasaray win) will drop Besiktas back to third.
