The Turkish Football Federation has loosened restrictions on the number of foreign players a Super Lig can have...
After years of restricting the number of foreign players a team can have, the TFF's club committee decided to loosen the number of foreign players a team can have.
The new rule states that a team can have up to 28 players, 14 of them Turkish and 14 of them foreigners. The new rule will also allow the team to field a total of 11 foreign players at the same time and in general will only be allowed to have a total of 11 foreign players in the matchday squad; with a new rule that requires teams to have at least one academy player in their matchday squad.
A downside of the rule however is that foreign players of Turkish origin who play for other national teams (ie Veli Kavlak and former FB player Onder Turaci) will be considered as foreign players.
This new rule will take effect starting the 2015-16 season.
