Fenerbahce cruised through their match with Caykur Rizespor to reclaim the first spot of the league...
Fenerbahce built on their momentum from last round's 1-0 victory over Besiktas defeating Caykur Rizespor 5-1 in an injury plagued match that saw the Yellow Canaries play without Dirk Kuyt, Raul Meireles, Diego Ribas and Egemen Korkmaz.
However those injuries might have come as a blessing in disguise as substitutes Mehmet Topuz and Pierre Webo made the most of their appearances and as always put on a great showing.
Mehmet Topuz opened the scoring in the 5th minute through a beautiful volley and only three minutes later Pierre Webo assisted Moussa Sow to make the score 2-0. However in the 19th minute goalkeeper Volkan Demirel was injured after a harsh tackle from Rizespor's player and was replaced by Mert Gunok.
Moussa Sow added his second goal of the night in the 35th minute after a spectacular run making the score 3-0.
Fenerbahce started the second half with Michal Kadlec replacing Bruno Alves who got injured in the first half and only four minutes later Mehmet Topuz assisted Pierre Webo with the 4th goal of the night. Later on the in the 55th minute Turkish international left-back Caner Erkin scored a deflected freekick to seal Fenerbahce a comfortable win over Rizespor, whose only goal came from Deniz Kadah in the 62nd minute. Topuz was injured later on the in the match and Fenerbahce had to continue with ten men.
Fenerbahce are now first in the league with 56 points, one point ahead of second placed Galatasaray and two points ahead of third placed Besiktas, who both still have a match in hand each. Full league standings here.
Fenerbahce will next face Mersin IY in the second leg of the Turkish quaterfinals on Tuesday, the 7th of April before hosting Bursaspor next Sunday in the league.
