The soon-to-be 34-year old forward left Fenerbahce before the last game of the season against the relegated Kayserispor in order to join the Dutch national football team's training sessions.
Netherlands coach van Gaal did not name Kuyt in his provisional 20-man squad however he invited Kuyt to his training sessions and based on performances in training van Gaal will decide whether to name Kuyt in his 23-man squad for the World Cup or not.
