Notes on yesterdays match vs Benfica...

Its interesting to see the reaction some people are showing towards the match of yesterday. While most fans have seen the progress in the how the team played; some are still finding ways to criticize. An example would be Oguz Cetin, a former Fenerbahce player and current coach who refused to criticize our manager last year when we lost to Vardar (a team with less market value than one player in our team) but still found it perfectly reasonable to criticise manager Phillip Cocu who managed his first official match against a Benfica side that is far better than our team on paper.

While the result we got yesterday isnt necessarily horrendous, the goal we conceded with 21 minutes left was annoying mainly because of its sloppy danger. The goal came from two personal mistakes; Isla wasn't marking his man and Volkan should've saved the shot.

This was our first official match with Cocu,we were unlucky not to have Ayew and had to start with Dirar who had his first match with the first team in the wing position (he preivously played in two friendlies, one off the bench and one as right back) and with Soldado injured in the summer it wouldve been a risk to start him.

The positive talking point of the match would be the first half where we showed great teamwork and the players (for the first time in years) looked as if they knew what they're doing, where to stand, who to mark and how to move.

With Ayew and Soldado fit to start next match, with Baris shining in the few minutes he was given and Ekici showing his ability to dictate play in midfield when he replaced the erratic Valbuena yesterday, regardless of the outcome of next week's match, we can safely say that the team is going in the right direction and with the pool of young players in our team there's no reason to worry about who to play.
