After a slow start Fenerbahçe had the opportunity to control the match as Mersin's goalkeeper was sent off early on in the second half. Fenerbahçe however failed to capitalize on the the fact that Mersin are playing with 10 men with the hosts able to attack but failing to score.
Mersin had numerous opportunities most notably a free kick through former Fenerbahçe player Gokcek Vederson who hit the crossbar. Mersin's Welliton also had two dangerous attempts with Volkan and the crossbar falling him.
It wasn't until the 93rd minute that Fenerbahçe took the lead in a match that first seemed to be the end of the road for Ismail Kartal's men: Emre, who started the match on the bench scored a rocket shot from outside the penalty box to shut the hosts down.
Mersin still tried to go back into the game and score however Fenerbahçe were able to retain the score. Fenerbahçe are now second in the league with 70 points, three points behind leaders Galatasaray and 4 points ahead of third placed Besiktas who still have a match in hand. Fenerbahçe will still play Basakehir away next week before they host Kasimpasa in the final game of the season. In order for Fenerbahçe to win the league Galatasaray will have to lose a match; Gala will host Besiktas next week before traveling to rize for the last match of the season.
