"THIS IS KADIKOY!", a huge banner displayed at the stadium read as Fenerbahce defeated arch rivals Galatasaray in a tension-filled night at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium...
It didn't take long for the tension to start building up at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, where Galatasaray have failed to grab a win in a staggering 16 years! From the kickoff of the match Fenerbahce wore their attacking gear mercilessly endangering Galatasaray's goal, but a sloppy last touch from FB's strikers and a few outstanding saves from Gala's Muslera meant the match stayed in a 0-0 stalemate.
It wasn't until the 81st minute that the stadium erupted in cheers and screams; Mehmet Topal delivered a cross to Dirk Kuyt who calmly put the ball to the back of Muslera's net. Following two dissapointing results at home against Akhisar and away at Konyaspor, the Fenerbahce fans were treated with a precious treat; a goal against non other than Galatasaray to put the season back on track.
Moments only after Kuyt's goal Galatasaray's substitute Yasin was able to escape through Fenerbahce's defence and fired a shot that was merely saved by Fenerbahce's goalkeeper Volkan Demirel, who had one of his best displays in a Fenerbahce shirt in years.
Fenerbahce went out on attack again hungry for the second goal however Webo failed to convert a good pass from the returning Alper Potuk. Throughout the match Fenerbahce were very close to scoring most notably from Emre's freekick that hit the woodwork.
Fenerbahce are now third in the league with 50 points, only one point behind first placed Galatasaray (51 points) and second placed Besiktas (51 points). Full league standings can be found in the standings tab above.
