The 25-year old's contract ends in May however according to Haberturk, Fenerbahce are willing to have veteran goalie Volkan Demirel pass the torch on to Mert, similar to how legendary goalie Rustu Recber passed the torch to Volkan around eight years ago.
Haberturk are claiming that Mert has principally agreed to sign the five year contract offered to him that is set to keep him with the club until May 2020.
