Former Fenerbahce and Brazil national team captain Alexsandro de Souza announced on his Twitter account that he took the decision to retire from football!

Alex left Fenerbahce in 2012 with 136 league goals from 245 matches after a dispute with Fenerbahce coach Aykut Kocaman with just four goals away from breaking that latter's scoring record of 140 goals.
Alex still is the all time top scorer in UEFA competitions for Fenerbahce with 15 goals and he was the captain of the Brazilian national football team during the 2004 Copa America which was his fourth silverware with his country after winning the the 1999 Copa America, 2005 Lunar Cup and 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup competitions too.

During his time at Fenerbahce he won many trophies including three Super Lig titles, one Turkish Cup title and two Super Cup titles; he also captained Fenerbahce throughout the 2007-08 and 2012-13 seasons.

Alex also is decorated with personal awards such as the Best midfielder of South America (1999, 2003), Top UEFA Champions League assistor (2007-08), Brazilian league footballer of the year (2003), Turkish league footballer of the year (2005, 2010), IFFHS 3rd best striker in the world (1999), Best young player in the Brazilian State league (1995), Turkish league top scorer (2006-07, 2010-11), Turkish Cup top scorer (2004-05), Best midfielder of the Brazilian State league (1999) and much more.
