The 34-year old midfielder who joined Fenerbahçe from Newcastle United in 2008 for €4.5 million and rejoined Fenerbahçe for free in January 2013 (after he was released in July 2012) from Ateltico Madrid will be leaving the team after six and the half seasons in Kadikoy.
Emre, who previously captained the Turkish national team and was chosen as Inter Milan player of the year a decade ago scored his last goal for Fenerbahçe in an away match at Mersin two months ago, a 90th minute long shot that led the skipper to an emotional turmoil after being the subject of ridicule from Turkish football fans for years.
Emre helped Fenerbahçe to the triumph of two league titles and two Turkish Cups as well as two Turkish Super Cups in his 6.5 years at the club.
We wish Emre the best in his career and hope to see him play for another big team next season; and lastly we remember him for his famous words of last season to Slaven Bilic: "THIS IS ITANBUL".
